100% Zakat policy
The whole of your Zakat goes to eligible recipients. We never use Zakat for running costs.
Our commitment
Zakat is a pillar of Islam and a trust. Hayat Humanitarian Aid handles every Zakat donation with care, so that it reaches people who are eligible to receive it.
Who receives your Zakat
We distribute Zakat only to the eight categories of people named in the Qur’an (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:60):
- the poor (al-fuqara)
- the needy (al-masakin)
- those employed to collect and administer Zakat
- those whose hearts are to be reconciled
- to free those in bondage
- those in debt
- in the cause of Allah
- the stranded traveller
In practice, most of the Zakat we receive helps families in poverty and people displaced by war and disaster, such as orphans in Kenya and families in Gaza.
Kept separate
Zakat donations are recorded separately from Sadaqah and general donations, so we always know which funds are Zakat and spend them only on Zakat-eligible work.
100% Zakat policy
Under our 100% donation policy, the whole of your Zakat goes to eligible recipients. We do not use Zakat to pay for our running costs.
When it is distributed
We aim to distribute Zakat as soon as possible, and within the lunar year in which we receive it.
Appeals that accept Zakat
When you give, choose "Zakat" as the type of giving. Appeals that accept Zakat include orphans in Kenya and emergency aid for families in Gaza. If an appeal cannot accept Zakat, we will pass your Zakat to another eligible project.
Paying your Zakat
Use our Zakat calculator to work out how much you owe, then pay your Zakat online. You can pay it in one go or spread it over the year.
Zakat al-Fitr
Zakat al-Fitr is due from every Muslim before the Eid prayer at the end of Ramadan. We distribute it as food to families in need before Eid. You can pay Zakat al-Fitr here.
